The concept of Mindfulness may seem complicated but what it truly signifies is radical simplicity.
The culprit? Our current lifestyles have become so complicated that simplicity can seem out of reach, unachievable and even unrealistic!
So, let’s start at the beginning, with the understanding that mindfulness is simplicity itself and the process of discovery is constant – just like peeling an onion, in the end, you are left with no material complications.
I would define mindfulness as “simply being present in the moment, right now, right here”.
It is as elementary as that.
Achieving mindfulness however, can still prove to be challenging because nowadays mental overstimulation has become the demand from oneself, the expectation of others and the new normal.
At first we feel proud and productive when we are multitasking yet this “dis- ease” of an overactive mind condemns us to running not towards a goal or meaningful end but instead running in repetitive circles.
Just as a hamster runs on a spinning wheel, we too run in vain. With our emotional security tied to this unnatural hyperactivity, slowing down can cause us to feel insecure … worthless.
This is the predominant reason most people feel uncomfortable practicing mindfulness. Unless and until we find ourselves drowning in violent waves of anxiety, stress, or depression … only then do we finally succumb to admitting to ourselves that we urgently need help.
“A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step” – this proverb defines mindfulness.
We cannot take that first RIGHT step without being mindful, without being present. We have become aware that we can quickly take a lot of steps but to what advantage if they are all taken in the wrong direction.
“Slow and steady wins the race.” Mindfulness is a realization that quality matters more than quantity, or speed.
And this realization is so important because life is BEAUTIFUL and VIBRANT; it is happening right at this moment and you don’t want to miss it!
